Learn to speak mandarin from TV episode excerpt - Unsettled Youth - 我们无处安放的青春An audio excerpt from a TV episode is a very good learning resource if you’re longing to speak like a native Chinese speaker.

The narrative or talks in TV episodes are in natural day to day language. You can learn and imitate the tone and the way people talk that express real emotions. In this series of posts, I’ll record excerpts into mp3 from a popular TV episode “Unsettled Youth” (or “We Have Nowhere to Place Youth”) 我们无处安放的青春 wǒmen wúchù ānfàng de qīngchūn and add Chinese, pinyin and translation to it.

I’d recommend you to listen to it first. Then read the Chinese script, make sure you understand the meaning of each line. You’d better have a good online dictionary handy to help you lookup the new words if the translation couldn’t help you clearly understand certain words. repeat with it for as many times as you need, until you can read the lines in Chinese by yourself. Repeat with the recording, pause or rewind if you need. Compare your pronunciation with the recording and tune your tones.

At last, go watch the video below. See whether you can totally enjoy the part where the excerpt was. I’ll give you a brief introduction on what was happening in the video:

In the latter part of the first episode, a second girl went into 李然’s lǐ rán life. Her name is 周蒙 zhōu méng. She’s also a university student. They liked each other at the first sight and then quickly fell in love with each other. The following is the narrative from 李然 lǐ rán about his feelings towards 周蒙 zhōu méng when he first met her:

wǒ dìyīcì kàn dào zhè shuāng yǎnjing
我第一次看到这双眼睛

The first time I saw this pair of eyes

jiù xīwàng zìjǐ kěyǐ yīshēng bèi tā zhùshì zhe
就希望自己可以一生被她注视着

I wished my whole life would get the attention of them

yī shuāng qīngchè ér míngmèi de yǎnjing
一双清澈而明媚的眼睛

A pair of clear and bright eyes

zài zhè shuāng yǎnjing lǐ
在这双眼睛里

In these eyes

qīngchè de zhǐ róng dé xià yīgèrén
清澈的只容得下一个人

it’s crystal clear that only one person can come in

wéiyī de yīgèrén
唯一的一个人

The one and the only one

wǒ tīngbujiàn zìjǐ de xīntiào
我听不见自己的心跳

I couldn’t hear my own heartbeat

gǎnjué bùdào zìjǐ de hūxī
感觉不到自己的呼吸

my own breathe either

zhǐ juéde zìjǐ piāofú zài bànkōngzhōng
只觉得自己漂浮在半空中

I only felt I was floating in the air

zài zhè shìjiè lǐ
在这世界里

In this world

zhǐyǒu zhè zhùshì zhe wǒ de nà yī shuāng yǎnjing
只有这注视着我的那一双眼睛

the only existance is this pair of eyes that are looking at me

wǒ zhīdào
我知道

I knew

wǒ děngdài de sècǎi
我等待的色彩

the color I’d been waiting for

wǒ qīdài de wéiyī
我期待的唯一

the unique one I was expecting

zhōngyú dàolái le
终于到来了

finally was here
