新结婚时代 xīn jiéhūn shídài (New Era of Marriage)” is a Chinese TV episode based on the book of the same name by a famous women writer “王海鸰 wáng hǎi líng“. It talks about how big impact the difference between two marriage families could do to the marrying couple in today’s China. The difference is defined between a family from the country side and a family from the country side and a family from the big city.
After miscarriage, 小西 xiǎo xī stayed at home for recovery. Suddenly, she got a call from her husband 建国 jiànguó asking for help. 建国’s jiànguó acquaintance from his country side home was detained by police for no reason. 建国 jiànguó was hoping 小西 xiǎo xī could use her social connections to find someone to help his acquaintance. 小西 xiǎo xī called 简佳 jiǎn jiā. 简佳’s jiǎn jiā previous lover, business man 刘凯瑞 Liú kǎi ruì helped 小西 xiǎo xī to let the acquaintance go free. However, 小西 xiǎo xī realized that acquaintance was detained due to illegal behaviour. But 建国 jiànguó lied to her. 小西’s xiǎo xī was really mad when she got back home. Even though 建国 jiànguó was doing extra at home to make her happy, cooking dinner, cleaning the rooms etc. 小西 xiǎo xī was furious that 建国 jiànguó deceived her to make her help his acquaintance. Then 小西 xiǎo xī hurt 建国’s jiànguó feeling by complaining on how much trouble 建国’s jiànguó family and country side acquaintance had brought to her family. 建国 jiànguó left angrily. He had no place to go in Beijin, so he got himself drunk in a small resteraunt and finally got dumped on the street by the resteraunt owner. 刘凯瑞 Liú kǎi ruì spotted him and sent him back home. After that, 简佳 jiǎn jiā and 刘凯瑞 Liú kǎi ruì had a talk about their relationship. 刘凯瑞 Liú kǎi ruì told 简佳 jiǎn jiā he could give 简佳 jiǎn jiā anything she wants but marriage. 简佳 jiǎn jiā told him to leave.
OK now, I’ll zip it and let you to watch it on your own. Once you totally understand a part of conversation in the episode, please imitate the actor’s lines since the way they talk in this TV episode is very natural mandarin. Once you’re very familiar with the lines, they’ll come out of your mouth next time you speak Chinese.
