Chinese radical show – “alcohol” radical (26)

In this series you’ll meet Chinese radicals that frequently appear in Chinese characters. To make it simple for you to memorize, I’ll just simply make a beautiful card with the radical on it’s left, and one English word to explain what it symbolize on the right.

In Chinese, radical is called 部首 bùshǒu or 偏旁 piān páng. Today we’ll learn the radical that is related to “alcohol” – 酒 mǐn: 酉

Most characters that have this radical are related to alcohol. The following are a few examples: 酿酒 niàng jiǔ (to make wine), , 醒 xǐng (awake [wake up when alcohol wear off]), 醉 zuì (drunk), 酸 suān (acid) etc.
