A Chinese article that can make a stone cry – 永失我爱 (15)This article was first posted on a Chinese forum 网易(wǎng yì) by writer “春儿(chūn r)” some years ago. It was so touching and well written that people started to share it across the web.

The original article is about 10824 character long. I’ll post them in a series of posts with pinyin annotation and my own English translation. An online radio recording by 晓风(xiǎo fēng) from www.1ting.com is also placed at the beginning of each post. Please be aware that the recording has slight changes in wording here and there compared to the original article. The recording has been split into smaller parts to align with the length of each post.

Feel free to drop your comments along your reading. If you have questions, I’ll try my best to respond within 24 hours.

My Love Lost Forever

   chūn r

chòu chòu hěn xǐhuan tīng gē, zuì zuì xǐhuan tú hóng gāng de《 bàwángbiéjī》――

Chou Chou liked to listen to songs. He loved the “Farewell My Concubine” song from Tu Honggang

… wǒ zhàn zài liè liè fēng zhōng, hènbunéng dàng jìn miánmián xīntòng, wàng cāngtiān, sìfāng yúnyǒng, jiàn zài shǒu, wèn tiān

xià shéi shì yīngxióng……

I stand in the wind, wish it could take away all my pain, look into the sky, cloud wave in from all around. with my sword in hand, who is the hero of them all …

cái liǎng suì de chòu chòu huì yòng zhìnèn de shēngyīn cóngtóu chàng dào wěi, yībiān hái huīwǔ zhuóshǒu zhòngdì sháozi。 zuòchū

bá jiàn de yàngzi。

My two-year-old Chou Chou could sing the song from beginning to end with a spoon in hand as his sword.

《 bàwángbiéjī》, duō“ kě’ài” de gē ā, wǒ dàoxiànzài yě bù míngbai tā wèishénme huì xǐhuan nà shǒu gē.

shìfǒu shì lǎotiān zài xiàng wǒ yùshì zhe shénme。

The “Farewell My Concubine” song, what a “lovely” song, I just don’t understand why he would love that song. Whether it was an hint of things to come?

dāng tú hóng gāng chū dì’èr shǒu gē《 Zhōngguó gōngfu》 shí, wǒ de chòu chòu yǐ zài míliú zhījì le, tā yǐ xūruò de

qǐ bù lái chuáng le。

When Tu Honggang released his second song “Chinese Kong Fu”, Chou Chou was already in his last days. He was too weak to get out of bed.

dàn tā yī tīngdào chuāng wài chuánlái de gēshēng。 tā réng táiqǐ tā gānshòu píbāo gǔtou de xiǎojiǎo, gàosu wǒ:“ mā

mā kàn!”

Whenever he heard the song from outside of the window, he would still raise his skinny little foot, telling me:” Mommy, look!”

tā shìyì tā zài liàn wǔ, zài liàn Zhōngguó gōngfu ne。

He meant he was practicing his Chinese Kong Fu.

zài nà yī nián lǐ, wǒ zǒngshì bùyàn qí fán de gàosu chòu chòu:“ chòu chòu, nǐ zhīdào ma? māma hěn ài hěn ài

hěn ài hěn ài hěn ài hěn ài hěn ài nǐ!”

In that year, I kept telling Chou Chou repetitively:”Chou Chou, do you know? Mommy loves you very very very very very very much!”

zài tā bìng de rìzi lǐ, wǒ yòng le hěn duō piānfāng gěi tā zhìbìng。

During his sick days, I searched quite a few folk prescriptions for him in hope to cure him.

wǒ dài tā zhǎo guò qìgōng dàshī, fā guò gōng, gěi tā hē guò tā zìjǐ de niàoyè, gěi tā chī háma de yǎn

jīng, qù sìmiào xǔyuàn děngděng,( wǒ zhīdào wǒ hěn yúmèi) dànshì yīqiè dōu méiyǒu yòng。

I brought him to the Qi Gong Specialist; I let him to drink his own pee; I fed him the eyes of toad; I prayed in the temple, etc… ( I know I was fatuous ….) But none of those worked.

chòu chòu réngrán zuò le shǒushù。

Chou Chou still have to take the operation.

Because the tumor started to grow out of his eye. It did bulged out, he couldn’t close his eye tight.

měicì wǒ bāng tā hé yǎnjing de shíhou, kàn dào tā yīnggāi shì yǎnqiú de dìfang yǐ bèi yīkuài huīsè de dōngxi

dàitì de shíhou, wǒ dōu zài chàndǒu。

Every time I helped him to close his eye lip, watching his eye ball being replaced by a blob of grey stuff, I shivered.

fēngkuáng àiren míngbai。

I was on the verge of collapsing, I grabbed my lover’s hand, with all my strength, couldn’t say a word. But my lover understand the fury in my eyes.
